May 8, 2018 - LANSING, Mich. - The following statement is from Brandy Johnson, executive director of the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN), in response to the passing of State Superintendent Brian J. Whiston on Monday evening, May 7.

“Superintendent Whiston made a profound impact on Michigan and public education. Our sincere condolences and thoughts go to Superintendent Whiston’s family and MDE colleagues following his passing,” said Brandy Johnson, executive director of the Michigan College Access Network. “Superintendent Whiston steadfast commitment to Michigan’s students was demonstrated by his dedication to making Michigan a Top 10 education state in 10 years. By working in tandem with education advocates, parents, and educators he made it clear that only by setting bold goals would we propel students to reach higher and achieve those goals. His leadership and ability to work collaboratively will be missed.”

About Michigan College Access Network
