Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) recognizes the great work of college access programs across the state to move Michigan closer to Goal 2025 – to increase the percentage of Michigan residents with degrees or postsecondary certificates to 60 percent by the year 2025. While MCAN's primary strategy to achieving Goal 2025 remains the development and support of Local College Access Networks, MCAN will now also provide scholarship funding to school counselors to attend non-MCAN trainings/conferences to support their professional development.
Michigan College Access Network believes that school counselors are well poised to lead the charge in ensuring students are socially, academically, logistically and financially prepared for postsecondary education. Professional Development Scholarships will provide funding to school counselors to participate in college and career readiness training and professional development opportunities. This funding opportunity will help ensure school counselors are able to assist all students in the development of their postsecondary education plans with the most relevant and up-to-date information available. Scholarship funds can only be utilized to cover registration fees for the professional development opportunity. Scholarships will be provided as a reimbursement once a final report has been submitted.
Professional Development Scholarships will be available on a rolling basis until allocated funding is depleted within the fiscal year, which begins October 1 annually. Please contact MCAN when considering an application for confirmation that funding is still available. No scholarships will be awarded between September 1 and September 30, annually. Scholarship applications received during that time will be considered for support after October 1.
You are encouraged to contact MCAN to inquire about eligibility and to request technical assistance. Please contact Jamie Jacobs, senior director of capacity building at jamie(a)micollegeaccess.org or 517-316-1713 for assistance with your application.
