(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting company imSMB announced on Wednesday it has set up its new hosting service, WebHostingCampaign.com, to raise $1 million for the ASPCA, Doctors Without Borders, PPCLI Foundation and The Wounded Warriors Foundation.

Those small businesses that purchase hosting services from WebHostingCampaign.com will have more than 50 percent of their hosting fees donated to the charity of their choice.

The initiative is interesting in that imSMB set up a separate hosting brand to raise funds instead of simply donating a lump sum amount to these charities, as in the case of Go Daddy, or disrupting its own service pricing to donate a percentage to charities, as in the case of TrendyHost.

WebHostingCampaign.com will presumably give imSMB some added exposure to its hosting services in both the hosting community and nonprofit sector, while raising money for a good cause.

A quick comparison of the specs show that the two services are more or less the same. For $7.95 month, customers will receive free set up, free domain, unlimited disk space and email accounts, a website builder, and $400 in marketing resources.

“Small businesses want to give back–it’s rewarding, and just feels right,” said imSMB co-founder Mark Drake. “WebHostingCampaign.com will help these worthwhile organizations while providing a much-needed service to businesses that want to be found on the Internet.”

Those organizations interested in participating can visit WebHostingCampaign.com, choose one of the four nonprofit organizations they would like to support, and click on the “Sign Up” button on the landing page of that organization.

Once the business has subscribed to the web hosting service, imSMB will pledge $55 toward the selected nonprofit organization, which works out to be more than 50 percent of the annual hosting fee. The web hosting company can also transfer a business’s existing website to its hosting services.

The web hosting company will also provide the WebHostingCampaign.com logo for customers to post on their websites, business cards and wherever else they choose.

imSMB’s announcement comes a week after ServInt named the Michigan College Access Network as the first quarterly finalist for the inaugural ServInt Sextant Award, which recognizes those ServInt customers who are making the greatest community impact with their Internet-based enterprises.
