Michigan College Access Alliance

Michigan is fortunate to have a vast array of programs, organizations, and resources dedicated to helping more students earn college degrees. The state’s decentralized approach to higher education governance promotes postsecondary access, quality, innovation, and student success. However, given Michigan’s decentralized model, a need exists to better coordinate and strengthen college access initiatives among the wide range of vested organizations. Enhanced collaboration among these mission-aligned initiatives is essential to making even greater progress toward Michigan’s college attainment goals. The Michigan College Access Alliance is a formal partner roundtable consisting of statewide college access leaders, service providers, and stakeholders. The purpose of the alliance is to share updates on statewide initiatives, align programs and resources, and facilitate opportunities for deeper collaboration.

Statewide Agenda for Education Attainment

The Michigan College Access Alliance brings together key stakeholders in K-12, higher education, business, government, and the nonprofit sector to serve as a collective voice, dedicated to increasing the number of Michigan students who earn college degrees and other credentials valued in the new economy. Understanding that the 21st century economy requires Michigan residents to be equipped with education and training beyond a high school diploma, the Alliance advocates for all valuable postsecondary credentials beyond high school, including professional/technical certificates and academic degrees.

Finally, through effective communication and the alignment of programs and resources, the Alliance creates opportunities for meaningful collaboration. The members are committed to increasing the percentage of Michigan residents with a college degree or valuable credential to 60% by the year 2030.
